Lalanne, Sunshine, Keeping Fit, and Enjoying Life

I’m obsessed. I’ll admit it. My obsession is telling everyone about the virtues of knowing your Vitamin D blood level and bringing the Vitamin D blood level up to par.

I don’t think Frank Kaiser will mind me talking about the fact that the first time Carolyn was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, I asked Carolyn to ask her oncologist about taking Vitamin D.  The answer was why?  The oncologist didn’t recommend it. Today, Carolyn takes Vitamin D.

That’s not unusual for oncologists to ignore the value of nutrients such as vitamin D during cancer treatment. The reason for this view is the fact that there is a basic belief that vitamins, herbal supplements and the like will interfere with the chemo regimen.

You can overdose on vitamins and herbal supplements, just as you can on Tylenol or prescription drugs. So, when you are under treatment for cancer and they don’t measure your blood value of key vitamins, minerals and etc., I guess you shouldn’t take them if you don’t know what your blood values are.

The famous New York City Cancer Hospital named Sloan Kettering did a patient survey and discovered 3 out of 4 cancer patients were below the low normal of 30 ng’s. It so happens that a Dr. Cedric Garland said the same thing many years before Sloan Kettering did the survey. Dr. Garland believes that 3 out of 4 cancers are preventable if you have a normal blood level of Vitamin D.  Even if he is 50% wrong, we would still save over 250,000 people a year from getting cancer if no one in America was low on Vitamin D.  American Cancer Society already states 1 out of 3 cancers can be prevented by good nutrition and exercise. That would be over 160,000 lives saved per year.

So, today, January 24th. 2011, I learned that Jack Lalanne passed away at 96 years young. Over the years he promoted good nutrition (juicing and etc.), vitamins and exercise for a long and healthy life. He did it well, but oh so few have followed his example. All I can say is “Good Job” Jack. We will miss you.

Hello Sunshine! That’s become my battle cry for knowing your Vitamin D value and to get out and welcome the sun prudently and not be sun shy.

I will always remember Jack LaLanne for showing so many the path to a long healthy life. Come join us…..

Vitamin D Video Review

2012 Update of Hello Sunshine A primer on Vitamin D focuses on the history of why 3 out of 4 Americans are deficient on Vitamin D and also explores the issue with presentations from Dr. Garland and Dr. Heaney who have devoted their medical career in researching the Vitamin D deficiency issue and what has to be done to reverse this medical travesty. Scientists now know that over 2400 genes require Vitamin D for normal biological function. Vitamin D deficiencies help contribute to the expression of different disease states and the impact on cancer and other major disease states is reviewed. New developments are addressed in this updated video. An informational video designed to motive individuals to have their blood value of Vitamin D determined and to take the appropriate treatment action with professional medical guidance.

Smoking reduces vitamin D
Vitamin D needed to activate genes – genes needed due to stress, etc

Only thing listed in Physicians Desk Reference is Vitamin D2
Doctors had been taught that > 1,000 IU vitamin D was toxic (as he had been)
40-60 ng is the level he feels is correct
